    About Labradorite

Labradorite is twilight trapped in stone, a feldspar mineral whose grey base ignites with flashes of blue, green and gold, an effect known as labradorescence. This play of colour occurs when light bends and reflects off microscopic layers within the crystal, creating sheets of auroras like the Northern Lights captured in rock. Labradorite formed in igneous rocks like gabbro and basalt, cooling slowly so that the iridescent lamellae could arrange themselves perfectly. It encourages magic and transformation, reminding you that beneath a calm exterior lies a universe of hidden colours and untapped potential.

Mohs hardness 6 out of 10. Reference: 1 Talc (softest), 7 Quartz, 10 Diamond (hardest).

Labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar, typically rates about 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale (general feldspar hardness).

Handling: It is moderately hard but can cleave along layers. Protect it from sharp blows and extreme heat.

    How to Use

Labradorite is durable yet fragile along its cleavage. Keep it dry, avoid chemicals, and protect its iridescent surfaces.

    • Avoid dropping or striking; labradorite can cleave along planes
    • Do not expose to strong acids or alkalis which can dull the surface
    • Safe for brief water cleansing; dry thoroughly
    • Store away from direct sunlight to preserve labradorescence

    Care & Cleansing

    Brief Water

    Recommended

    Smoke CleansingPreferred

    Purifies without contact or moisture

    Running Water

    Brief rinse refreshes; dry immediately

    MoonlightPreferred

Gentle lunar energy recharges and deepens iridescence

    Sunlight

Short exposure energises; long exposure can dull colours

    Avoid

    Chemical Cleaners

Acids and alkalis can etch feldspar

    Storage

Store Labradorite wrapped in soft cloth away from heavy objects and direct heat.

    Safety

    Cleavage Splitting

    medium

Labradorite can split along lamellae if struck. Handle with care.

    Surface Dulling

    medium

Strong acids and alkalis can dull labradorite’s sheen. Clean with mild soap and water only.

Labradorite is safe for external use and should not be ingested or used in elixirs. Fine shards may form if it breaks along cleavage planes.
