    About Ametrine

Ametrine is a natural bicolor quartz where amethyst's purple meets citrine's gold inside a single stone. Almost every commercial ametrine comes from the Anahi Mine in Bolivia, where iron in the original quartz oxidized to different states as the crystal cooled, producing two color zones along the same axis. The mine sits in Bolivia's eastern Pantanal region, far from the famous Andes mineral belt. Spanish records trace the deposit to a 1600s conquistador who received the mine through marriage to a princess named Anahi. The two color zones run along the crystal's c-axis because amethyst and citrine form at slightly different temperatures during a single growth phase. The mine was lost for centuries and rediscovered in the 1970s, and most faceted ametrine on the global gem market still traces back to this one deposit.

    Metaphysical Properties

Ametrine carries amethyst's calm clarity and citrine's bright drive in one stone, which makes it a favorite for anyone working to balance intuition with action. It speaks to the Solar Plexus and Crown chakras at once, supporting decisions that feel both grounded and inspired. People reach for it during transitions, creative work, and any moment that asks them to hold two seemingly opposite truths without choosing a side. Use it when you want focus that does not flatten your imagination. Sit with it when you need to decide without abandoning either half of yourself. Many people pair it with clear quartz for amplification, or with rose quartz when the integration work touches the heart. It is not a strong grounding stone, so reach for hematite or black tourmaline when you need to drop into the body. Ametrine's place is the middle path, the conversation between two parts of you that have been arguing too long.

Ametrine's solid 7 rating reflects the spiritual strength that comes from perfect balance. Like a master who has integrated both shadow and light, this stone can withstand daily spiritual work while requiring mindful care to preserve its delicate color zones.

Handling: Store separately from harder stones, avoid impacts on color boundary zones which may be planes of weakness, and protect from scratches during spiritual practices or jewelry wear.

    • Brazil

    How to Use

Ametrine requires mindful handling to preserve both its physical integrity and metaphysical potency. The color boundary zones may act as planes of weakness under stress.

    • Maximum 30 minutes direct sunlight exposure to prevent permanent color fading
    • Avoid sudden temperature changes which can cause thermal shock and fractures
    • Store in dark, cool place when not in use to preserve vibrant color zoning
    • Keep separate from harder stones (8+ Mohs) to prevent surface abrasions

    Care & Cleansing

    Brief Water

    Recommended

    Lukewarm WaterPreferred

Safe for quartz family, use mild soap and soft cloth

    Moonlight ChargingPreferred

Preserves color while cleansing energy, especially effective during full moon

    Sage/Palo Santo SmokePreferred

Gentle energetic cleansing without physical stress

    Selenite PlacementPreferred

Continuous gentle charging without exposure risks

    Avoid

    Extended Sunlight

Prolonged UV exposure causes irreversible color fading in both amethyst and citrine portions

    Steam Cleaning

Heat and thermal shock can cause fractures along color boundaries

    Ultrasonic (if treated)

May damage dyed or fracture-filled specimens

    Storage

Store in dark, fabric-lined compartment away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep separate from harder stones to prevent scratching during storage.

    Safety

    UV Light Sensitivity

    high

Both amethyst and citrine components are susceptible to UV fading. Extended sunlight exposure can permanently alter colors from vibrant purple/yellow to pale or clear zones.

    Temperature Shock Vulnerability

    high

Sudden temperature changes can cause fractures, particularly along the natural color boundary zones which may act as planes of weakness.

    Chemical Damage Risk

    medium

Vulnerable to damage from harsh cleaning agents, household bleach, acids, and alkaline substances. Can be damaged by hydrofluoric acid and ammonium fluoride.

    Impact Sensitivity

    medium

While durable for daily wear, the color zoning boundaries and natural inclusions can create planes of weakness. Avoid impacts and pressure on these areas.

Ametrine requires careful light management to preserve its unique bicolor beauty and maintain its powerful dual energies.
