Volcanic mirror: face your shadow, cut through illusion, embrace transformation.

About Black Obsidian
Black obsidian is a volcanic tear frozen in mid‑air, born when molten lava spills from the heart of the Earth and cools so quickly that it has no time to crystallize. Its surface is as reflective as still water at midnight, a dark mirror that has served shamans and oracles for thousands of years. Hold it and you feel the raw power of mountains erupting, the release of pressure that creates new land. This glass is honest and uncompromising; it shows you your own shadow and invites you to turn pain into wisdom. Black obsidian teaches that transformation can be instantaneous and final, like magma becoming glass in the blink of an eye.
Metaphysical Properties
Mohs Hardness
Black obsidian ranks around 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, harder than common knife steel yet brittle like glass. Its edges can be razor sharp even without polishing.
Handling: Because it is a glass, obsidian chips and splinters easily when dropped or struck. Handle polished pieces carefully and store them in padded bags.

How to Use
Treat obsidian like fragile glass; although harder than steel, it fractures easily. Handle carefully and avoid extremes of heat or cold.
- Keep out of reach of children due to sharp edges
- Do not subject to sudden temperature changes which can cause cracking
- Rinse gently; avoid abrasive scrubbing which can scratch the surface
- Use cautiously in massage or body layouts to prevent cuts
Care & Cleansing
Brief WaterRecommended
Glass structure tolerates brief rinsing and washes away negativity
Clears absorbed energy gently without physical stress
Harmonizes vibrations without needing contact
Short exposure energizes but prolonged exposure may cause cracking due to heat
Avoid
Salt grains can scratch and etch the polished surface
Storage
Wrap black obsidian in a soft cloth or keep in a padded box. Avoid stacking with harder stones and store away from direct heat.
Safety
Cut Risk
highRaw or chipped edges can be razor sharp. Handle with care and keep away from children and pets.
Cracking Hazard
mediumRapid temperature changes can cause obsidian to fracture. Do not heat or freeze it.
Black obsidian’s glassy nature makes it sharp and brittle; treat it with respect to avoid injury and damage.
